Five Lessons for Creatives I Learned from Film
Art has so much wisdom to pass onto us, and it is always made by people just like you. These are creeds, philosophies, and proverbs that can guide every creative through their daily hardships. This list could go on forever, but, for now, here are 5 lessons from the artistic medium of film to think about.

Catherine Lacey writes a beautiful book review that is actually an open letter but reads more like a personal reflection about Deborah Levy’s book “Real Estate.”
The Industry’s newsletter this week shares some interesting insights to what creative workers in Hollywood and Disney are facing. They also share a film with a beautiful story made by an independent filmmaker that is coming out this fall.
Jared shares a deeply personal story that offers amazing insight into how we process pain in life relative to those around us.
Ceylan: “I have a toxic relationship with my plant babies. They want to die, and I want to defy my lack of a green thumb and keep them alive. It’s taking up a lot of my mental space.”
Jared: “The TV show Gotham. I have been obsessed with it this week and probably will be next week, too.”
Charles: “Transformers (because of the new film Transformers One), the manga Berserk, The Beatles White Album, start of the MLB playoffs (will the Mets go the distance thanks to Grimace?), and my search for a real dang good cheeseburger (thanks to the film The Menu).”
10 Signs You’re Suffering From Freelancer Isolation
If you are a creative, you probably work as an entrepreneur or solopreneur. Making a living off of your passion can be a great way to enjoy personal freedom, earn money on your own terms, and also make a name for yourself in your industry. Unfortunately, being your own boss can also be maddeningly lonely.
Isolation is an issue many creatives face, primarily because most entrepreneurs work entirely alone. You might not even realize how much the isolation is affecting you.
Isolation is no joke. It can cause depression, speed up burnout, worsen your health, and even encourage substance use. If any of these warning signs ring true, you need to get out there and socialize. It could save your life — or at least, your career.

Being a creative freelancer is a great way to make money doing what you love. However, this job is also one of the best ways to slowly lose your grip on what it means to be sane. Freelancing can be rough on both your wallet and your mind. These 10 hacks are game-changers and will help you avoid the biggest pitfalls.
