Ok. So I joined late yesterday, so I just finished listening to the full episode.
Thank ya’ll! You have given me a lot to think about. My time on SubStack has been one slow growth process. But I do agree with Russel. I am sick of the trajectory of my current path. I am going to figure out what ‘chaosing’ looks like for me. Again, thank you all!! To a brighter future!
Wow! So much gold in this, particularly when it comes to knowing the "rules" so we can then challenge them. And yes, "people don't read cross genre" makes ZERO sense! In fact, earlier today I was reflecting this very thing because I write in multiple genres.
I think it's more about challenging rules in general, which are often stated in absolutes when in fact they're just pointing to generalizations. For instance, one thing I hear a lot in regards to book marketing is that social media is a waste of time and you should only focus on email marketing. And it's like, ok, I see where that's coming from, but you can always find exceptions to the rule. Like authors who ARE successful using social media. So I think it's about finding what works best for you. But at the same time, being aware of the rules can give you some parameters to work with and guide you when charting your path, even if it's to do the opposite.
Yessss! 100%, you’ve got it! It’s all about charting your own path and finding what works for you. Way to go being brave and bold enough to define your own success story!
